The Xi’an greenhouse
has a horseshoe plan, creating a loop that changes radically in section to
accommodate a series of unique planting and spatial conditions as seen in Fig.
184.108.40.206. The shape generates an interior open-air courtyard that serves as its
natural centre which creates a three-dimensional web of interior and exterior

The location of the
building is located near the lake while is blended into the hillside. The Xi’an Greenhouse is one of the main
tourist attractions in China that aims to reconnect its people with nature. It
offers various activities that will cater its users as they enjoy a cool green
space to explore. Plasma Studio, an architectural firm based in Beijing,
designed the greenhouse project which was established after the design won from
a competition in Xi’an International Horticultural Exposition 2011.

The Eden Project as shown in Fig.
18.104.22.168 is located in a reclaimed Kaolinite Pit. The complex has two large
enclosures consisting of adjoining domes and emulates a natural biome. The
biomes consist of hundreds of hexagonal and pentagonal shapes that is made of
inflated, plastic cells supported by steel frames.
There are two covered biomes at the
bottom of the pit. The tropical biome is used for tropical plants such as
fruiting banana plants, coffee, rubber and giant bamboo, and is kept at a
tropical temperature and moisture level that covers 1.56 hectares of land.
Another, is the Mediterranean Biome that covers 0.654 hectares which houses
familiar warm temperature and arid plants.
Covered Biomes are made from tubular
steel with hexagonal external cladding patterns made from thermoplastic ETFE.
To avoid accidents and dangers, glass was avoided due to its weight. The cladding panels themselves are
created from several layers of thin UV-transparent ETFE film, which are sealed around
their perimeter and inflated to create a
large cushion. The resulting cushion acts as a thermal blanket to the
structure. The ETFE material is resistant to most stains, which simply wash off
in the rain.

chambers are installed in the 136,000 sq. ft. Advanced Crop Lab that offers the
ability to control all environmental variables.
A ribbon of community space runs through the centre of the complex, maximizing
interaction and connection among science teams, administrative groups, and

The Advanced Crop Lab
helps to further study traits that help crops better tolerate climate
variability, combat plant stressors and improve yield in corn, soybeans and
sugar cane. It also will support new research in cereals, rice and vegetables. More
than 80 percent of this project’s construction materials were recycled.

2.2.1 Project Title: Sunchamp

Figure 184.108.40.206 shows the arial view of
Sunchamp Agri-Tourism Park located at Rosario, Batangas. The concept of this
project is combining farming that offers agricultural tour with tourism. The 145
hectare self-sustaining agriculture-tourism park not only seeks to empower
farmers on having guaranteed market for their produce but also to uniquely
bring tourism. The project developers aim to develop a park that is open for
tourists who could get a closer educational look at agricultural processes
through its facilities.
There are various facilities including
a greenhouse, farms for mango, mahogany and asparagus, an orchid nursery and a
British Palace Maze Garden shown in Figure 220.127.116.11. The greenhouse facilities
are designed for high value crops like lettuce, bell pepper, tomato, and

A research and development center for
carabao mango and cacao production was also opened to guests. The park also has
an open events area with a seating capacity of 50-200 people, an antique house
enclosed by a thicket of mahogany that serves as the museum, accommodations and
offers children educational tour activities like Vermicomposting, meeting
exotic birds at the Aviary, pet animals in the Mini zoo, pick vegetables at the
greenhouses, learn about salted egg production and enjoy at the fish spa. The
different and new perspective of an agri-tourism park and its amenities will
attract tourist because of its unique concept.
2.2.2 Project Title: Peñalosa Farms

the exterior view of a 40,000
sq.m. integrated farm in Victorias City, Negros Occidental
known as Peñalosa Farms that is owned by a farmer named
Ramon “Mon” Peñalosa, Jr.
produces various organic fruits, herbs and vegetables. It also raises its own probiotic based pork,
chicken and other livestock. The design of the building is inspired from a
Native Filipino House with its capiz shell sliding windows and carved wooden
elements. The farm is designed by Architect Michael Andrew Peñalosa, who is also the farm manager.

The proposal for coffee research,
development and extension center aims to promote the coffee industry of the
Municipality of Indang in the Province of Cavite. As a tribute for the
greatness of coffee, the town’s bountiful and chief harvests, the Cavite State
University raised a campaign for the creation of the center. In the province, a
new festivity is being promoted as a coffee feast celebration in Amadeo namely,

facilities to promote the development of coffee industry in the Philippines.

According to the act proposal, the
general powers and function of the center direct to develop productive, high
yielding, good quality varietys of coffee specifically Exelsa and Liberica, to
produce a gene bank for coffee, upgrade skills and conduct training programs.
The Special Activities of the
Philippine President authorized the amount of 50,000,000 pesos for the
operation, maintenance, research, development, and extension activities.
2.3 Research Paradigm

Fig. 2.3.1 shows that the research started by considering the Sustainable
Development Goals and President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s Ten Point Socioeconomic
Agenda. Agriculture and Rural Tourism are some of the budget priorities of the
national budget proposed by the current President Duterte. Articles and other
supporting details regarding the agri-tourism in the Philippines from different
sources are gathered and findings have focused on the coffee industry and the
rich culture of Sagada, Mountain Province. Different data about design
technology and techniques are gathered and combined to innovate a green
input represents the gathering of data from different articles and sources
related to analyze the
study. Evidences, related studies about the project, site and design analysis
are some of the details done in process phase that are filtered and combined as
final solution for the proposed project.
2.4 Methods of Research
The descriptive method is used on this study. It is used to
describe the characteristics and details of a population or a phenomenon. This method is used through considering case
studies and related literature about the project. In descriptive method, the subject is being observed in a
completely natural and unchanged natural environment. The researcher observed
the behaviour of tourists and the cultural aspects of the community. This is to
give respect to the tradition of the locals in the municipal.

new data and information. The purpose of this research is to describe, observe
and document the study. Case studies involve describing and interpreting
events, conditions, circumstances, or situations that are occurring in the
present. Surveys are also conducted by giving brief interviews or discussion

2.6 Sampling Techniques Used
random sampling technique was used in the application of the research. Random
samples are used to avoid bias and other unwanted effects. Each member of the population
has an equal and known chance of being selected including tourists, locals, head
officers, farmers and others randomly.
The questions asked are about the coffee industry, culture, history,
agriculture and tourism that are explained to the respondents to give them
understanding on answering the survey and interview given. The gathered random
data gave a wide knowledge on how these can help in designing and planning the
project. Considering the needs and wants of individuals could also give idea that
will make the project unique by reflecting their place identity.
Another method used is quota
sampling technique where population is first segmented into mutually exclusive
is used to select the subjects or units from each segment based on a specified
proportion referring into class levels, gender, and socioeconomic status. This
method allows the researcher to observe relationships between subgroups and
creates a controlled variable over populace.
This also helps eliminate individuals that do not fit the concept needed
in the study.
2.7 Data Gathering Procedure
Ten Point Socioeconomic Agenda of the Philippine President was first
researched. The researcher discovered that promotion of rural tourism and
agriculture is one of the agenda’s goals. Tourism makes an important part of
the country’s economy growth together with the local growing coffee industry.
Business trends also gave the idea about connecting agriculture and tourism
(Agri-Tourism), where farming can contribute as an educational and cultural
tool to promote the municipal’s wonders and traditions while having leisure
time. The study is about promoting the Municipal of Sagada, Mountain Province
as a tourist destination and to help the community by increasing employment
methods used in gathering data for this research is mostly from conducting
interviews from different locals, officers and people related to the project.
2.8 Research Instruments Used
Interviews from the locals and related
professionals of the community played a huge role in this study. It helps
strengthen the research and gives ideas on designing a proposal that has the
municipal’s unique identity by reflecting their culture and tradition.
Analysis from the municipal and its
environment supplied the researcher ideas on designing and planning the
proposal on the site. The behaviour of locals and tourists also affect on how
the design will cater the need of its users.
Data and information given by several
reliable departments and offices such as the Planning and Development Office,
Tourism Development Planning Office and Agriculture Office of the Municipality
of Sagada are used and copyrighted.
The internet is a powerful tool that
improves the researcher’s ideas about the proposal by discovering related
studies and innovative designs. It also helped by providing data about the
Municipality of Sagada, Mountain Province.
Laptop and other gadgets
As portable instruments, these helped
to continue the researcher working in different places. It helps on taking
photos, record notes and other data on spot anywhere.
News updates about agriculture and
tourism helped the researcher to come up with the idea. Articles and reports
regarding the problem were compiled to formulate and develop the proposal.
